| POTENTIAL SCAM ALERT |
|
The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin is aware that members of the public have received phone calls or letters from individuals who claim to be law enforcement officers or court employees, but who are attempting to perpetrate a scam.
The scammers attempt to convince the recipient to pay money or a “fine” to avoid arrest for alleged identity theft, alleged failure to report for jury duty or other alleged offenses. They may seem credible and may use “spoof” telephone numbers that look like government phone numbers, provide badge numbers, provide names of actual law enforcement officers or court employees (including judges) or provide actual law enforcement or court addresses.
If you believe you have been the victim of such a scam, you should report it to the local FBI field office (414) 276-4684 or via the FBI Electronic Tip. You also should report such scam calls to the Federal Trade Commission. Please Click Here for more information.
